Home Care and Hospice Month is here! Last year to celebrate, we asked our wonderful home health and hospice clients why they’re thankful to be in the industry.

We asked our clients five questions ranging from the most fulfilling thing about working in home care or hospice to ways their facility celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday. Here’s what they said:

What’s the most fulfilling thing about working in the home care or hospice industry?

“The staff dedication to our patients, families and the community. Making sure they ease the pain, discomfort, fear and anxiety of everyone involved in the hospice or homecare process.”
– Nicole, Allay Home & Hospice, Inc.

“Knowing that they are getting the service they need in the comfort of their own home.”
– Delene, Accent

“The most fulfilling thing about working in hospice is being able to comfort families and offer support during stressful and confusing times.”
– Andrea, Haven Health

What’s your favorite way that your agency celebrates or honors patients and families you serve? Do you have special practices or routines for honoring them?

“Pinning for our Veterans is an amazing way to honor them for their service.”
– Laurie, Harbor Hospice

“Each year an art piece is created with a remembrance of some sort for every patient who died. We have these displayed throughout our offices. It is very visual and makes the loss of each patient felt. We have wreaths with ribbons, sand art with each patient represented by a different color, trees painted with leaves for each patient, candles in shadow boxes, and many more.”
– Laura, Hospice of the Piedmont

“Helping others. Taking the focus off yourself and putting it on someone else. Serving others!”
– Karin, Kindred at Home Care and Hospice

What are you most thankful for at work each day?

“To be able to do what I love. I have been a biller for Home Health and Hospice for 28 years.”
– Denise, Providence at Home

“Every day is a new opportunity to help someone that really needs it. I work with a great team and it really does make a difference.”
– Toni, St. Andrews & Bethesda Home Health

“The opportunity to learn something new each day and assisting in making a difference in some ones life every day.”
– Sindy, Kindred at Home – Stockton

Does your agency do anything special to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday?

“We celebrate Thanksgiving by collecting food for the needy and putting baskets together for the less fortunate.”
– Christina, CHI Health at Home

“We have a Thanksgiving dinner and each employee tells what they are thankful for.”
– Robin, Medical Services of America HH Billing Center

“We make sure that our hospice patients and families who are in need has all the fixings to have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”
– Carlos, Burke Hospice and Palliative Care

What, if any, changes are coming to your industry that you’re grateful for?

“Expanding our service coverage area.”
Stephanie, Lorian Home Systems, Inc.

“I’m happy that things are becoming more electronic. Computers make our lives easier and communication is better.”
Tammy, Diversified Health Management

“The increased awareness of the importance of home care and hospice for the elderly population.”
– LHC Group

“The changes in technology which allows us more access to what is available for our patients.”
– Lynn, Overlook VNA & Hospice Inc.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey! We are thankful for all of you, and it gives us great satisfaction to know our products and services help make each day a little easier for you and your clients.
