Finding Success Through Helping Others
Tariq Wanyanga-Tate sums up his life and work philosophy in this quote: “The strongest people make time to help others, even if they’re struggling with their own personal problems.”
“I strongly believe in helping others, even at the cost of one’s own peace,” he said. “I apply that to my work, even in how I structure my day. I make sure to prioritize assisting others when help is requested, or whenever there is a group project that needs attention.”
Helping others, both clients and colleagues, is one reason Tariq loves being part of eSolutions’ Client Services team. Tariq has worked at eSolutions for a little more than three years. He has worked for other departments while at eSolutions but said he has always found the most fulfillment as part of the Client Services team, assisting clients and resolving their unique issues.
Tariq is currently a Senior Implementation Specialist, responsible for providing support to some of eSolutions’ major TITAN and RemitDATA Legacy product clients. He also oversees the assignment and completion of Revenue Insights product implementation requests.
Before finding eSolutions, Tariq sharpened his customer service skills working at a fast-food restaurant chain called Abbays. He did a bit of everything to help out, including wiping tables and working in the kitchen. He then worked the night shift at FedEx as a handler. In this position, he scanned and stacked packages and assisted coworkers and managers with their nightly tasks. This included leaving his station at the end of his shift and joining others to help get their packages out in time, helping deliver packages to the planes and retrieving additional “cans” so that others could stack their packages inside them.
“At both locations, I made sure that I learned how to work in every role available in order to best be of use to my coworkers,” he said.
That experience has helped him succeed at eSolutions – and has made him a valued member of the Client Services team.
“Here at eSolutions, I have been granted the opportunity to complete tasks for various departments and obtain experience that will be applicable in many aspects of life,” Tariq explained. “I have also found that the workplace culture here has been the most friendly and genuinely loving out of any place that I have previously worked.”
A typical day for Tariq involves following up on existing implementation or support tasks, as well as working as a part of eSolutions’ Memphis team on any special projects currently on the docket. He said he has a knack for finding solutions to unique support issues. For example, he often uploads data and sets up child accounts for certain customers. On numerous occasions, he has been able to identify erroneous segments and/or dummy data within the 835s or 837s that he received. From there, he informed the clients about the issue with the file so that they could fix the problem.
Despite his many successes day-to-day, Tariq said there are challenges, as well. His biggest challenge at work has been stepping into a more delegatory position, in which he’s responsible for assigning and completing Revenue Insights product implementation requests. Like every other work challenge that comes his way, though, he relies on his helpful nature and teamwork to succeed.
“Working with peers who prioritize helping each other and excelling at time management has made the process of getting Revenue Insights implementations out in a timely manner go smoothly,” he said.
Outside of eSolutions, Tariq said he enjoys spending time with friends and working on himself physically through exercise.
“This is one of the ways I ensure that I am growing more and more into the person I want to be each day,” he explained. “I am the happiest when I am spending time with friends I have known since I was a child. Good company can turn any task or engagement into the highlight of a day.”
Tariq said he wants clients to know that eSolutions has a large, dedicated staff of caring Client Services representatives who are ready to resolve any issue in a timely manner and in a way that is the most simple and stress-free for the client. For many eSolutions’ clients, however, working with Tariq to solve their billing issues is a highlight of their day.
“The most rewarding aspect of my position is building relationships with the large and small clients I typically work with,” he said. “Earning a customer’s trust to the point where they reach out to you directly when they need assistance provides a level of affirmation regarding your ability to assist them.”
